I've bin and gorn and dun it.

MessageAuthor

Well, I've taken the plunge, and I'm in the process of buying a 2005 V70 D5 SE Geartronic (163ps). Trading in my S40 2.0D. I really need an automatic, and a slightly bigger car. Dawn Blue Pearl, 23,000 miles, FDSH, Black leather interior. Getting a 3 year warranty, phone kit, service, GAP insurance etc etc thrown in. Few questions. I've looked at the pfv site, but can't find a strut brace to fit this car, is there one? The Haynes manual only goes up to MY 2004 cars, is the 2005 really any different? Its on 17" alloys, so I'm assuming it'll have the 305mm brakes? Have I done the right thing? This means that my 960 will be up for sale in the new year, if anyone is interested.

You can buy a kit to modify the engine support into a strut brace. Think the only sure way of nowing the disc size is to measure them. I think you will enjoy your D5 and it sounds a very nice specification. Best of luck.

As Jim says, the P2 cars come with an engine brace as standard which with a kit available from the likes of IPD can be turned into a "pseudo" strutbrace. Alternatively, Nuisance did it for a few pence with a few washers.

This is the only I've seen. As said, 17" wheels are no guarantee that it has 305mm discs. Measure them when the time comes to be sure. Enjoy your new car. When they work, they work very well and are great to drive.

Nice car Alec, i was looking at one earlier today.I think the D5 is the best choice. I would certainly have one but the mileage we do doesn't justify changing. Have fun :animal-smiley-037: steve
